These terms govern your use of Escape Tin: Survival & Compass ("the app"), published by Hugo Software. By installing or using the app you agree to them.
Important safety notice
The app gives general outdoor and survival information and navigation aids. It is not medical advice, not professional training and not a substitute for emergency services. In an emergency, call your local emergency number (for example 112 or 911) if you can.
- Phone sensors can be wrong. Compass readings are affected by metal, magnets, vehicles and electronics, and need calibration. GPS can be inaccurate or unavailable under trees, in valleys, indoors or without a clear sky. The app shows the accuracy your phone reports, but it cannot guarantee it.
- Batteries run out. Carry a physical map and compass, tell someone your route, and learn to use them.
- Sun, watch, shadow and star methods are approximate and depend on your position, the date and the time on your phone.
- First-aid steps are basic and general. Get proper training; follow instructions from emergency services.
You use the information and tools at your own judgement and risk.
Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control. You may not copy, resell, reverse-engineer or redistribute the app.
Free features
The app is free to download. The survival guide, the compass with back-to-camp to one marked point, the rescue card, SOS Flash, the whistle, the SMS location button, night red mode, the sun / watch / shadow-stick / North Star / Southern Cross tools and the level are free, with no time limit. Life-safety features are never locked behind the subscription.
Escape Tin Pro subscription
Escape Tin Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription. It unlocks comfort features: multiple saved waypoints with GPX export, the satellite view, the barometer and an additional theme.
- Plans: weekly, monthly or yearly. The price of each plan is shown in the app and in Google Play, in your local currency, before you confirm.
- Introductory offer: new subscribers to the weekly plan may be offered the first 3 days at a reduced one-time price. That price and the regular weekly price that follows are shown before you confirm. After the 3 days the subscription renews automatically at the regular weekly price until you cancel.
- Renewal: every plan renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
- Billing: payment is charged to your Google Play account; all payment processing is done by Google Play.
- Cancelling: cancel any time in Google Play > Subscriptions. To avoid the regular weekly charge, cancel before the introductory period ends. You keep Pro until the end of the period already paid for.
- Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.
Prices may change. If a price changes for an existing subscription, Google Play notifies you before charging the new price.
Refunds
Refunds are handled by Google Play under its own refund policy. If you believe you were charged in error, contact Google Play support; you may also write to [email protected] and we will help where we can.
Availability and changes
We may update, change or discontinue features of the app. The app is provided as it is at any given time.
No warranty
The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, including any warranty that readings, coordinates or calculations are accurate or available when you need them.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Hugo Software is not liable for injury, loss or damage arising from reliance on the app's information or readings, for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data stored on your device. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms; the current version is always available at this address.
