Escape Tin: Survival & Compass ("the app") is an offline survival guide and navigation app for Android, published by Hugo Software. We collect no personal data.

Your location stays on your device

The app reads your position from your phone's GPS while the app is open, so it can show your coordinates (MGRS grid and latitude/longitude), the distance and direction back to a point you marked, and the position of the sun and stars. Your location is processed only on your device. It is never uploaded to us or to anyone else. The app does not track you in the background.

What is stored, and where

Your settings, the camp point you mark and any waypoints you save are kept only on your device, in the app's own local storage. There is no account, no sign-up and no server of ours that stores your data. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data removes everything.

SMS location message

The rescue card has a "Send location by SMS" button. It opens your own SMS app with a message that contains your coordinates. You choose the recipient and you send it yourself. The app never sends messages on its own and never receives a copy.

GPX files

Pro subscribers can export waypoints as a GPX file. The file is created on your device and leaves it only when you choose a destination in Android's share sheet.

Sensors and flashlight

The compass uses the phone's magnetic and motion sensors; the level uses the motion sensor. Readings are used live and never stored or sent anywhere. SOS Flash switches the camera's flashlight on and off; the camera never takes photos or video.

No advertising, no analytics

The app contains no advertising SDK, reads no advertising ID, and contains no third-party analytics and no crash-reporting SDK. There is no tracking and no profiling.

Network activity

The app's features work fully offline. The only network traffic is Google Play Billing, handled by Google Play services on your device, to show prices and check your subscription.

Subscriptions and payment

Escape Tin Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription sold through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play. We never receive or store your payment details. Your subscription status is read from Google Play on your device.

Children

The app is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13.

Deleting your data

All data lives only on your device: delete waypoints in the app, or uninstall the app to remove everything. We hold no copy, so there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf. See the data removal page. Uninstalling does not cancel a subscription; cancel in Google Play > Subscriptions.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR give you rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over personal data held about you. Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or erase.

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The current version is always available at this address.
